Our History

Summerville Baptist Church

Changing Lives in Summerville since 1896

Summerville Baptist Church, established in 1896, has been a steadfast presence in Summerville, South Carolina, dedicated to fostering faith and community engagement. Over the years, the church has expanded its ministries to meet the evolving needs of its congregation and the broader community.

In May 2017, the church welcomed Randy Harling as its Lead Pastor. Prior to this role, Pastor Harling served as president of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and as pastor of Simpsonville First Baptist Church. He holds degrees from Furman University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Under his leadership, Summerville Baptist has continued to thrive, emphasizing scripturally-backed teaching and fostering a welcoming environment for all.

Today, Summerville Baptist offers a variety of ministries, including Children’s Ministry for kids from kindergarten through 5th grade, Youth Group for students in 6th-12th grade, a diverse Music Ministry, and numerous Life Groups aimed at fostering community and spiritual growth.

The church operates two campuses: the Downtown Campus at 417 Central Avenue and the Pinewood Campus at 1114 Orangeburg Road, both in Summerville, SC.

Throughout our history, Summerville Baptist has remained committed to building vital relationships with Jesus and bringing others to His love, serving as a beacon of hope and faith in the Summerville community.
